FareShare Sussex & Surrey has been fighting food waste and hunger for nearly 25 years across its three counties. Nationally, Felix (formerly FareShare) has been doing so for over 30 years. We have learned a few things along the way; with huge successes and, admittedly, a few failures.
Time and experience have given us some certainties, one of which is that the government needs to engage to bring about some of the systemic changes. A few relatively small and low-impact legislative changes are required to really transform surplus food waste into a redemptive solution to the environmental disaster in the UK. Although steady progress has been made, especially in the past few years, some key tenets remain outstanding. These are primarily tax incentives and reporting requirements which have proven impact when adopted in other national settings.
This week, Felix has launched its latest policy report called the ‘Redistribution Revolution’. The policy report follows a huge piece of engagement work from a wide variety of stakeholders.
As we arrive at another budget cycle for our government, you too are invited to participate in the ‘Redistribution Revolution’ in the UK. A first step is to reach out to your local MP via this simple online form that outlines the key changes needed. The online form takes less than two minutes to complete and helps keep the pressure on the government to bring the change we need to see.
