We are looking for a new Trustee to join our Board as our Treasurer

This is an exciting opportunity to get involved in an engaging governance role in a charity that is making a tangible difference both in our communities in Sussex and Surrey, the environment and directly impacting people’s lives.

Last year…

…and we want to do more this year and next. We’d love you to be a part of it.

FareShare Sussex & Surrey exists to fight hunger, tackle food waste, and develop our volunteers.

Over 20% of all food produced for the UK ends up being wasted, which is an environmental and societal disaster, as huge volumes of it are still edible and nutritionally valuable. This is a major challenge set against the stark backdrop of growing poverty and social isolation. FareShare Sussex & Surrey works with hundreds of suppliers from all parts of the food industry to rescue and redistribute surplus food to a large network of charities and community groups in the region.

If you would like to use your time, skills and experience at the Board level to help us to continue to develop our activities to cope with the growing needs, we’d really like to hear from you. FareShare Sussex & Surrey is an established and successful enterprise at an exciting point of development.

We are looking for a committed individual with a strong team ethos to expand the range of director/trustee skills as well as to build on existing skills. We require dynamic and motivated people who are sympathetic to the aims and objectives of FareShare Sussex & Surrey to help fulfil these voluntary duties. We expect directors/trustees to contribute to the Board by giving strategic direction; setting overall policy; defining goals and setting targets; evaluating performance; and ensuring the charity’s effective administration and financial stability.

We absolutely want to have a wide range of people on our Board and seek to be representative of the diverse population of our community. There is no need to have trustee experience to apply, the key requirement is enthusiasm to help us achieve FareShare’s goals.

Applications are invited from individuals with knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Financial oversight. We would welcome applications from individuals who are qualified or experienced in this area and are interested in fulfilling the Treasurer’s role.

Directors/trustees are expected to:

  • Attend up to six meetings a year (currently 4 board meetings plus a strategic planning & review meeting. Board meetings on Tuesday evenings, alternate ones online and in person.
  • Contribute to one working group (usually 4-6 meetings a year of up to 2 hrs per meeting).
  • Develop an understanding of the work of FareShare Sussex & Surrey.
  • Contribute advice and support our Senior Leadership Team as required.
  • Attend events to represent and promote the work of FareShare Sussex & Surrey.
  • In addition to the general duties of a trustee, the Treasurer will act as the Board lead on financial issues and offer support and constructive challenge to the Executive team on financial matters.

How to apply:

If you would like to express your interest in this position, please send a covering letter of no more than 1 side of A4 outlining why you are interested and what you can offer along with your CV to Jonathan Wilkins at jon@faresharesussexandsurrey.org.uk before the closing date of 5pm on Friday 2nd May 2025.  Your application will be considered by the Board, and a response will be sent to you in writing within two weeks after the closing date.
