NO CHILD SHOULD GO HUNGRY
THIS SUMMER
When schools close for the summer, so do free school meals
Summer should be a time of joy and freedom for children.
But for many families, it’s a time of real anxiety and food insecurity.
When schools close for the holidays, so do free school meals.
Across Sussex and Surrey, more than 51,500 children rely on free school meals.
And every one of them faces the same cliff‑edge each July.
Families already under intense pressure suddenly face six long weeks of higher food bills, childcare pressures, and impossible choices about how to stretch the food budget and afford the basics.
Because of your support, families across Sussex and Surrey are able to access good, fresh food every single week, and it makes a genuine difference to those who are struggling.
As the school holidays approach, many of the families we support are already worried about how they will manage. The food and essential items we receive through FareShare Sussex & Surrey play a vital role in helping families get through the summer holidays with dignity.
How We Work
What we do is beautifully simple yet proven to be really effective. We take surplus food and then work hard to maximise its potential and social value by getting it to charities and community groups who support people in our communities.
