This is an exciting opportunity to get involved in an engaging governance role in a charity that is making a difference to our community and environment whilst directly impacting people’s lives!

This is what we did last year…

…and we want to do more this year and next. Do you want to be part of it?

FareShare Sussex & Surrey exists to fight hunger, tackle food waste and develop volunteers.

If you would like to use your time, skills and experience at Board level to help us achieve our goals, we very much look forward to hearing from you. FareShare Sussex & Surrey is a highly successful enterprise at an exciting point of development and expansion – we’ve just celebrated our 20th anniversary and are about to open a new depot in Guildford Surrey.

We are looking for committed individuals with a strong team ethos, to expand the range of director/trustee skills as well as to build on existing skills.  We require dynamic and motivated people who are sympathetic to the aims and objectives of FareShare Sussex & Surrey to fulfil these voluntary duties.  We expect directors/trustees to contribute to the Board by giving strategic direction; setting overall policy; defining goals and setting targets; evaluating performance; ensuring the charity’s effective administration and financial stability.

We want to have a wide range of people on the Board and seek to be representative of the diverse population of the community.  There is no need to have trustee experience to apply, the key requirement is enthusiasm to help us achieve FareShare’s goals.

Applications from individuals with knowledge or experience in any of the following areas will be particularly welcome:

  • Lived experience of food poverty
  • Commitment and experiences to reducing environmental impact of organisations
  • Supply chain operation & food distribution
  • HR / people and culture management
  • Finance (specifically for the treasurer position).

Directors/trustees are expected to:

  • Attend up to six meetings a year (currently on Tuesday evenings, half online, half in person)
  • Contribute to working groups (usually 4-6 meetings a year of up to 2 hrs per meeting)
  • Develop an understanding of the work of FareShare Sussex & Surrey
  • Contribute advice and support as required
  • Attend events and represent and promote the work of FareShare Sussex & Surrey.

How to apply:

If you would like to express your interest in this position, please send a covering letter of no more than 1 side of A4 outlining why you are interested and what you can offer along with your CV to Jonathan Wilkins at jon@faresharesussexandsurrey.org.uk before the closing date of 5pm on Friday 1st September 2023.  Your application will be considered by the Board and a response will be sent to you in writing.

To talk through the role and discuss what it might entail, please contact Jonathan, our chair of trustees, on the email above. Further details of the project’s aims, ethos and operation can be found on our website https://faresharesussexandsurrey.org.uk/.
